Vector Control Support
The Asia Pacific Malaria Elimination Network (APMEN) has received a $175,000 USD gift from Sumitomo Chemical to continue and expand the network's vector control activities in 2017 in the Asia Pacific region. The funding will increase the capacity of the APMEN Vector Control Working Group to relieve bottlenecks in capacity and implementation of entomology and vector control programs and build learning, collaboration and skills in the region.
APMEN will work with private sector partners to leverage the benefits of this donation with additional corporate support to further increase capacity in the region. The University of California San Francisco (UCSF) Global Health Group Malaria Elimination Initiative worked with Sumitomo Chemical in 2014 and 2016 to secure support for the network.
The funding complements support from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation for the APMEN Working Groups (Surveillance and Response, Vector Control, and Vivax).
